Ordered some nice brakes for the van. Coming Tuesday. With the next two weeks off, I am tempted to just go nuts on the car parts. BUT that will bump the van out of Stock class for RallyCross. BUT coilovers on a Transit Connect would be SWEET.
Am also considering a DIY cold air intake kit. Basically remove the airbox and stick a cone on it. Nobody makes a specific one for the TC 2.5, but the Fusion of that era has a similar set up, so I’ll model after that.
Otherwise, the list is short for things I can do to that 2.5 Duratec. And the cargo van already has so much lightness already provided.
Here is a bed full of clothes. Just clothes. Nothing else on the bed.

It is a Mazda engine, so in reality a lot of the 2.3L parts should be pretty easy to swap to fit.
The power is the big reason we never pulled the trigger on them, I loved the van as a whole, but I knew I’d never be happy with the power. If they’d throw an NA V6 under the hood I’d be all over it, especially now with the GC done.

I agree. They offered the FiST Ecoboost in a few of them, that would open up more opportunities for improvements. Ford really doesn’t have a good NA V6 anymore. They dumped their last one that went in the M ustang.

I thought they still had the 3.3L in the trucks, that would be more than enough engine and they seem very reliable. 290 hp in a TC would be a riot.
I’m not a fan of boosted engines, terrible economy and always laggy IMO.

I think the issue would be packaging. All of their engines are the wide bulky DOHC. The 3.3 likely won’t fit I believe. I see your point on the Ecoboost engines, though. Although swapping ST engines into Transit Connects have been done already.

I wouldn’t be against swapping one, if I got it cheap. For $18k+ they’re priced at for a decent passenger model, not a chance.
This is why we got a Grand Caravan instead. With the GT suspension it handles almost as nice, but it has over 100 more hp.
Maybe in another 5-10 years they’ll be cheap enough I won’t mind snagging one to swap it.

That’s why I bought the cargo version. Every wagon i saw was either too expensive, or had some sort of problem with it.
